The Senior Automation Project Engineer will lead automation and process control activities for CAPEX projects, ensuring successful execution from concept development through commissioning and start-up. This role is responsible for improving manufacturing performance, system reliability, and digital transformation initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple sites.

Job Description

  • Lead automation and control engineering activities throughout the full lifecycle of capital projects, from feasibility studies to project completion.
  • Manage project execution to ensure automation deliverables are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Design, review, and optimize automation architectures, control philosophies, and functional specifications.
  • Develop detailed engineering solutions for PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, historian, and industrial network systems.
  • Drive integration between process equipment, instrumentation, electrical systems, manufacturing platforms, and process control systems.
  • Support project development activities including feasibility studies, scope definition, risk assessments, and CAPEX planning.
  • Prepare technical specifications and automation strategies to support project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership during equipment testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), installation, commissioning, and plant start-up activities.
  • Validate system performance and ensure operational readiness before project handover.
  • Ensure automation systems comply with engineering standards, cybersecurity requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Improve system reliability, maintainability, operational performance, and energy efficiency across manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, EHS, Procurement, and Engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Support plant modernization, expansion projects, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization through automation and advanced control technologies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing performance and operational excellence.

The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in automation, process control, industrial control systems, or capital project execution.
  • Experience gained within manufacturing, food processing, chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or related industries.
  • Proven track record of delivering automation and control projects from concept design through commissioning and start-up.
  • Strong technical expertise in PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, industrial communication networks, and instrumentation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with automation platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell, or Yokogawa.
  • Experience developing control philosophies, functional design specifications, and automation architectures.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, engineering standards, and industrial cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience supporting CAPEX projects.
  • Background in brownfield facility expansion, plant upgrades, or modernization initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across multiple manufacturing locations.
  • Good command of English, both written and spoken.
